The Pupil Premium Strategy

Overview

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011, and paid by means of a specific grant based on school census figures for pupils registered as eligible for FSM in all year groups from Reception to Year 11; for looked after children; and for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.

Subsequently it has been widened to include ‘Ever 6’ pupils. These are pupils that have been eligible under the above criteria in the previous 6 years.

The Pupil Premium is additional to main school funding and it will be used by this school to address any underlying inequalities between eligible children and others by ensuring that funding reaches the pupils who need it most.

Objectives for pupil premium at All Saints

  1. The Pupil Premium will be used to provide additional educational support to improve the progress and to raise the standard of achievement for these pupils
  2. The funding will be used to “diminish the difference” between the achievement of these pupils and their peers
  3. As far as its powers allow, the school will use the additional funding to address any underlying inequalities between children eligible for Pupil Premium and others
  4. We will ensure that the additional funding reaches the pupils who need it most with the aim of making a significant impact on their education and lives.

Accountability

The headteacher and leadership team regularly monitor, evaluate and review the strategies we have put into place for Pupil Premium and report to the governing body on its progress and impact.

Statistics

  • In 2015-16 the school received £149420 in additional funding.
  • In the current year (2016-2017) the allocation is £155,450.

Strategic Usage

The school has carefully considered the “Barriers to Learning” of all our pupils and we have decided to use it on the following strategies:

  • Maintaining current levels of staff following cuts the schools delegated budget following changes to the local formula for funding schools. This enables the school to continue to ensure that appropriate interventions continue to meet the specific learning needs of children
  • Fund a free Breakfast Club to enhance school readiness and support good punctuality and attendance.
  • Employment of a Speech and Language Therapist for 2 days per week to improve Language and Communication skills through early intervention and support for developing staff pedagogy.
  • Target Reading and writing skills to enable children to meet the higher expectations of the new national curriculum.
  • Funding a ‘Forest Schools’ teacher for two sessions per week to raise self esteem and resilience.
  • Funding the Learning Mentor to support families in need.
  • Provide additional Educational Psychology support to enable the school to assess children’s complex needs earlier.
  • Providing financial support for children to access educational trips arranged by the school or by parents during holiday periods.

Summary:

The evidence gathered through the school’s evaluation of Pupil Premium expenditure for 2015-16 has shown that the intervention strategies continue to be successful. They have had a positive impact on the well being of targeted pupils and, consequently, their progress, and standards of achievement. However, many strategies are designed to have an impact over the long term and can be difficult to quantify. Consistently raising achievement with pupils facing the most difficult circumstances continues to be challenging.
