Year 2 2023 - 2024

Mrs Riley

Welcome to Year 2

Year 2 is an exciting and memorable year for the children. It is a time when they feel settled in school and are able to build on the skills they have gained in the EYFS and Year 1. In Year 2, we aim for our children to become fluent readers with strong comprehension skills and confident, enthusiastic writers. In Mathematics, we develop knowledge of the four operations and focus on rapid recall of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables. Elsewhere in the curriculum, we cover some fascinating topics including The Great Fire of London, St. Lucia and the Caribbean and the lives of Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale. Please click on the Year 2 Long Term Plan below to find out more.

Meet the Team

Mrs Riley is the Class Teacher and she is supported by Mrs Hartley. As a team, we have been working at All Saints for many years and we love our school!

Things to Remember

PE - Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school everyday. We will send their bags home each half term for kit to be washed.

Lunches and Snacks - School dinners are ordered through the Dolce 'Live Kitchen' website/app. It makes a huge difference to running of our day if children can order their meals before coming to school. All infant pupils receive an item of free school fruit each day. In addition to this, toast can be purchased at a cost of 10p. School milk is also available for a small charge - please ask for a 'Cool Milk' application form at the school office.

Finally... but most importantly, we would like to remind you that Reading at Home makes the single biggest impact on your child's progress. Reading is the key that unlocks the entire curriculum. Therefore, we recommend reading with your child for 15 minutes each night, or as frequently as possible. Children in Key Stage One on the Read Write Inc phonics scheme will have their book changed each week by their phonics teacher, so please ensure they have their books in school to return and exchange. If your child has moved into a Guided Reading group, they may change their book when they have finished reading it at home. This will be supervised by Mrs Riley. Please let us know if your child requires a new book.
