The School Day
The school day begins at 8.40am. Children are welcome in the playground from 8.20am onwards. Of course, if your child is registered at the Breakfast Club, they may arrive anytime from 8.00am.
We open the playground doors at 8.30 and your children may come into school then. This is an important time as the staff will have corrected work for the children to look at. This is called ‘Response Time’ and it gives the children time to reflect upon the work that they have done and what steps they need to use to improve it in the future.
It is vital that we teach the children the importance of punctuality and it is every parent’s responsibility to ensure that their child attends school regularly and on time. If you child is late you will be required to sign in the ‘late book’. Children that are late on more than two occasions in any half term may have their free time reduced to catch up on work that they may have missed.
If your child is absent for any reason, we must be informed by text, note or telephone call. We will contact you if we have not heard from you. Some parents will be required to provide a doctor’s note if their child’s attendance becomes a cause of concern. Unauthorised absences will be followed up by a visit from our Education Welfare Officer who has the authority to initiate legal proceedings.
Schools may legally authorise up to 10 days holiday a year. However, at All Saints we are very clear – holidays will not be authorised unless there are exceptional circumstances. This is because children’s attainment is adversely affected if they miss any schooling.
