Year 3 2023 - 2024

Miss Worthington

Teacher: Miss Worthington

Teaching Assistant(s): Mrs Fitchett

Year 3 is an exciting time in your child’s education as they make the transition to Key Stage 2. We aim to provide cross-curricular learning opportunities based around our topics including 'Stone Age, Bronze age and Iron Age', 'Caring for Our World', 'Where In the World', 'Here Come the Romans!' and 'Here come the Anglo Saxons!'.

We hope that you will find the information on our class page useful. Should you have any queries or concerns, please do not hesitate to speak to myself or Mrs Fitchett at the end of the day. Alternatively, please contact the office to arrange a mutually convenient time to speak on the telephone.

How you can help your child

Reading – Please try to read with your child as much as possible. All children have a school reading book at an appropriate level for them and some children may have brought home a ‘reading for pleasure’ book from our reading corner. Whilst many children will be able to read independently, it is still beneficial to listen to them reading and even to read to them so that they hear an adult modelling fluency and expression. Just 5 or 10 minutes reading each day will have a big impact on their reading.

Spellings – Most children have weekly spellings which should be practised each day.

Homework – Weekly homework is set on a Friday, this should be returned by the following Thursday so it can be marked and sent out the next day. The homework sheets cover a range of skills so that your child is constantly practising them throughout the year. If your child has any difficulty completing particular questions, please make a note and we will go over these with them.

Multiplication and division facts – In preparation for the multiplication tables check at the end of Year 4, your child should be practising their multiplication and division facts regularly. All children have access to Time Table Rockstars which can be accessed at home, and there are regular Battles of the Bands between the classes with the incentive of additional Golden Time for the winning class. In school, we practise our multiplication facts using the BBC Super Movers videos which are available on the BBC website.

Book bags – Please ensure that your child brings their book bag, together with their reading book,  reading record and spelling practice book, each day.

PE kit – Please ensure that your child has both an indoor and outdoor PE kit in school. Our indoor PE session in the first Spring term  will be on a Wednesday morning and the children have a games session with our sports coaches on a Wednesday afternoon.
